All,
We have a 1980 H-16 and my wife has given me permission to get a new set of sails for our boat. Yahoo!! It took 2 years but perserverence pervails!
Anyway, I could have a pin head made or go to a fat head. I have no interest in class racing so running with a non-Hobie isn't a problem. I was wondering if a fat head is worth the expense. Any opinions? If I went to a fat head, do I have to change the downhaul immediately or can I wait and just use the stock downhaul?
Thanks for your help!

I would say, no, it's not worth it on a Hobie 16. As I found out on my H18, the square top is a whole new ball game and if your mast wasn't designed to be bent with heavy downhaul and to have good control of outhaul and mast rotation as well, you won't be gaining anything but a cool look, but maybe that's enough?
