with mast up, sail up,I un hooked the mast stepping hinge while beached & variable wind wrapped mast up & snapped 2 plastic batton holders.I assume the pocket holders were old & brittle,or am I supposed to un-hitch mast after shovn off?my other question is on the out haul car on boom how much tention here? seems as if I had it too tight the goose neck hinge @ the boom was binding in some of my turns ,but when I returned to beach I noticed I for got to tention shroud wire on port side ..doh boat sailed fine even flew a hull on an aborted beaching manuver "a couple of kids came running down to see the cool sail boat instead of spearing them I sailed into the irons ,some how the rope jammed in the traveler rudder stuck a rock under the water pivoting me into an off shore gust& there I was flyin a hullin 3feet of water!! my first catamaran experience f-n sweet.next time I might even set up the jib. -

your hooked...rehab can't save you now. unhook the mast stepping hinge before you raise your sail, i do it right after i step the mast, now re-tension the shrouds. make sure cat is pointed into the wind with travelor and main sheet loose when sail goes up. there are some fine tuning you can do with the out haul car but for the most part just make sure sail is nice and smooth. downhaul main til no wrinkles. your jib is your friend, making tacking way easier and boat more stable. if you get caught in a blow, de-power the boat by loosening the travelor and main sheet. if you get caught in a big blow, let main sheet and travelor all the way out, head up tight and sail with the jib only. if its still too much, your in a hurricane!!
