Can anyone enlighten me why Hobie 18 rigging set costs 200 more then a Hobie 16? Im just a bit confused -

Likely due to the longer and larger diameter shrouds and forestay required. Not sure if they are included but the 18 requires diamond wires for the mast also where the 16 doesn't.

Also the jib furler needs a swivel at the top of the forestay. But my guess is the diameter of the cable and length make the biggest difference as Dave mentioned.

I agree with the guys above. Add to this the lower volume of rigging made to meet the demand for the 18 vs the 16. Higher quantity, lower cost to porduce.
