The H18's did pretty well in X-Class considering I led four of six to the wrong channel marker on Saturday's distance race so we sailed several extra miles.
Lesson learned: Don't assume you know where to sail just because it's been the same for 9 years in a row, check the regatta board for notices! I don't think the Hobie 18's had ever sailed the shortest course on Saturday, which is why a ASSumed we were going to the middle channel marker (129) instead of the the nearest (127) with the Hobie 16's.
If that was my (second biggest) embarrassment of the weekend, the biggest grin was absolutely OWNING the first race on Sunday.

There were 26 cats in the first (green flag) start, I got a hole-shot on the fleet I'll never forget and took the best line to A-Mark, rounded A-Mark all alone and no one got close the rest of the way!

Tyler, thanks for posting that, do you have the complete results with times for each race?
I tried calling Mandy at Juana's but haven't heard back. I'd like to have the complete Sailwave output to post.

Yeah, We did pretty good Saturdays race....we were 4th to the mark, then 2 boats got us downwind.

Looking forward to seeing all of you again this year, and some new faces too!
There are multiple hotel and rental companies offering discounts for the Regatta. Go to http://nwfevents.com/?page_id=102 and they are all listed with phone numbers at the bottom of the page. Make sure to mention the Regatta when you are booking. Hampton in has a link on the site to bring you to their Regatta booking page so you can get your discount and book on-line.
Also, there is on-line registration this year. And the Gulf Breeze Zoo is providing coupons to all racers that register by September 1. You will be e-mailed the coupons. -

My favorite regatta, I always encourage everyone to make this one whether they are newbies or experienced, just a great weekend.
I'll be checking the posted course a little more carefully on Saturday this year.

This really sounds like a fun time. I am gonna try to make it to one when we get back down to florida... Besides it would be cool to sail my nacra in the gulf....peace -

Not knockin it a bit as it sounds like great sailing...just be aware, Juanas course is in the Santa Rosa Sound...but that is only a stones throw to the gulf if you had some free time you would be right there.

Oh, sorry...Navarre Beach and Juana's are on Santa Rosa Island...it's a barrier island separating the sound from the Gulf. At the point where the regatta is held, the island is narrow and you could probably hear the rollers in the gulf when the surf is up.

Any thoughts on planning a "thebeachcats.com" gathering? Perhaps we could meet at the bar sometime Friday afternoon or evening? This is my first time attending, so I'll yield to the veterans to help with the details.

There is the pre-sailing party on Friday from 6-9PM. That is a great place to meet other sailors. There will be live music, free draft beer, free munchies, and you can pick up your t-shirts. If I know you are have a "thebeachcats.com" gathering to get to know one another, I can put up a sign or something for you. Maybe by the food table?
