After a bit of research, I've purchased plans for a Quattro 16 and just started building as a winter project. I have sailed for 20 years off and on, but I'm a novice cat sailer.
If any body has built and sailed one of these designs, I'd be ever grateful if there are any lessons learned from the build and sailing to share.
I've sailed all over the Eastern seaboard of the USA in the past from Chesapeake down to South Florida, but I'm settled in the NorthWest UK for the time being. The Quattro 16 design looks like it should meet my needs perfectly as a fast twin trapeze cat for lake and tidal estuary sailing.
Hope you can help
Has anyone built and sailed a Woods Quattro 16?

Daz,
That sounds like an awesome project! Looking at the web site the Quattro looks like a neat design and would serve you well. Not many people build wooden Cats anymore but I think there are a couple still around especially building Tornados. In the early days of Cat racing most of the cats were built using the same method. Tornado and Shark Catamarans were almost all hand built using `tortured plywood` until the mid 80s. There are some Tornado plans here and on the net as well as quite a bit of advice on building them.
Please keep a detailed photo record of yout build and post it in an image gallery here!! I would be very interested in building a similar cat in the future. I can`t think of anything cooler than blowing the doors off of someone using a catamaran you built yourself!

Thanks Dave. I was thinking of blogging the build so there's plenty of pics available.
I looked at the Tornado. I think that side by side, the Quattro 16 is the lighter of the two and carries a slightly bigger rig. I might be wrong, but I believe they share the same handicap.
I wanted to build rather than buy at this point because it stops me getting rooted to the armchair over the winter months. Too many long winter nights at home with the wife can do strange things to a chap - far safer to keep busy with sharp tools .
I will keep you posted.
Cheers,
D -

Daz,
I have one that I built about 15 years ago. It has been in a shed in Cornwall for the last 13 years - but I collected it this weekend (back to Warwickshire) with the plan to either renovate (new trampoline and main sail) or sell. As for the building of it, two thing I can remember - it was tricky getting the hulls straight, and I ended up adding an aluminium plate at the back for the rudder pins. If you have any specific questions let me know. (or if interested in taking off my hands - lets me know )
Regards
Max
