Lee Wicklund jumped into a long distance race in Texas without being invited, in fact his 20 foot beachcat was specifically outlawed by the "must be 27 foot" rule, but that didn't stop him from trying!

Um, Damon,
it's not a leaner race, or someone should tell Abandoned Assets and the other multihulls who entered. In fact, Tom Granger aboard what is now my boat won the perpetual in 1999 -

Your right I meant to say "big boat" race because of the official 27 foot limit. I was surprised to see that there were only 19 multihulls entered out of over 200. They don't list boat types in the results so I can't tell what multi was first to fiinish.

that's pretty much all the big multis in the area. IIRC AA were first to finish overall including the leaners. I do believe that Aaron Culley crews for them and is on this site, he might chime in

They are going off about this on sailing anarchy because the mention of the monohull cutting Lee off there are several diffrent opinions and name calling its pretty crazy!

I think it is a well written story of their adventure. However when reading it I was a little surprised about the detail he went into about being luffed by the monohull. Seems like he was jumping in on someone elses race and shouldn't complain in a written article about something like that. No comment from me on who was wrong in the situation. But to add drama to the article by taking a shot at the monohull seemed odd to me. Seems like there was plenty of drama to write about without doing that.
