Hello,
On my new (to me) N5.7 I suspect my trap lines are way to low. The handle is only about 1' - 1.5' above the deck. It made for some really interesting and Klutsy trapezing on my first sail out with this boat. I tried shortening the tail that connects to the bungee, but that did not really help.
About how high are your handles above the deck? Any recommendations?

If the trap wire dead ends about 1' to 1.5' above the hull, that is about correct. Out on the wire you want the tail with the handle to be able to reach to about the level of the deck. Shorten as needed using a line lock. I usually like to trapeze approximatlye equal to the deck, sometimes a little bit higher depending on the wind situation. It if it is your first cat, yes getting off the boat is a bit of an interesting experience the first time or two.
Regards,
Dave

That's about right. If you want to be higher, move ther rope lock closer to the dog bone but keep it so that you can hook in while seated on the hull.

You can hook into the top hole of most dogbones to shorten it temporarily. I like mine to reach a touch past the deck, as the trap lines are normally forward of the skipper's seat, and I like to be level with the deck close to the rear beam when the boat gets moving.

Maybe I am reading this differently from the rest of the group. If the "T" handle is 1-2 inches off the deck the trap wire is to long. If the "T" handle is about 12 inches above the deck then it is the correct length and you adjust the "Dog bone" or "Can't Miss Cable Ring" to the height you feel comfortable trapping by adjusiting the line & stopper going through the nicopress fitting of the trap wire that the "T" handle is resting on. When I pull the line the dog bone is attached to the dogbone is flush to slightly below the deck. The line is attached in the center of the dog bone so if I go to the small end I am higher, the long end gets me lower.
Hope this helps

The wire should end about a foot and a half above the deck. The ring should be able to be stretched down to the deck. The bungee will keep tension on it when you are hooked on to keep it hooked. the ring hight above deck is adjustable by moving the rope lock , some times you need to be higher than the side of the boat to clear rough water
This handle is probably about 6 inches to high on my old boat.

Personelly I like the handle 2.5' above the deck so that handle is above my shoulder and I can use handle to pull my torso off the deck. Pete
