prindle 16 rudder control bar

New to sailing and was given Prindle 16 (beats my snark sailboat of younger days). Trying to figure out the rudder control bar and the traveling block issue. Seems like everytime you want to come about you have to lift the bar out of the way for the block to go to the other side. Is this right? Or do i have something rigged up wrong. If there is a video or picture somewhere that would be helpful. I have a manual but it is unclear and old in nature. Thanks -

Not sure of the Prindle, but most of the Cats have a traveler that runs from side to side along a track. Yes, it will hit the hiking stik every time. As the sail starts to move across the trmp, you flip the stik around behind the main sheets & traveler car, pick it up on the other side & keep going.

If you are talking about the hiking stick then you are correct. That is why you have to practice tacking and gybing over and over. It's like a dance with too many steps. You have to figure out the procedure of keeping the rudders steady, flipping your hiking stick around back, working the main and moving under the boom all at the same time. Rick Whites videos and most cat books spend a large amount of time describing the steps. If you are chewing gum at the same time you are finished. :)
If you are talking about the rudder cross bar (the bar that connects the two rudders together) however something is wrong and you should try and post a picture so we can figure it out.

Check the prindle manual in the technical help section of the photos. I assume that you are talking about the traveler car passing to the other side. The tail of the mainsheet gets rigged in such a way that it holds the
traveler centered.

We first have to try and understand what you mean by "rudder control bar". The rudders are held in place by the "rudder casting", these castings are attached to the transom of each hull at the gudgeons using a pin. To control the rudders you have the "tiller" or "tiller tubes" or "tiller arms", because there are 2 tillers on a catamaran and we don't want them operating independently, they are connected together by the "tiller crossbar". All this hardware should not interfere with the "traveler car" which is situated on the rear crossbeam, the only time there will be interference is when you have an "extension stick" attached to the "tiller crossbar". If you are learning to sail your P16, take the tiller extension off untill such time as you are ready to go out on the wire.
