TheBeachcats.com Hobie 18 Fleet  Bottom

  • ...if two boats makes a fleet that is.

Meant to post this earlier in the week after last weekends sail at Sardis Lake, MS. The yellow boat was skippered by member sailinagin.

I think it's a cool picture, we had been roaming around the lake and spotted a beach with a couple dozen powerboats and pontoons hanging out on shore and decided to crash the party. Those folks were looking at us like we arrived from Mars. icon_lol

You must have weird powerboaters down there, or maybe they watched Deliverance one to many times!
I cruised over to a Provincial Park beach yesterday, it was Canada Day, our version of July 4, ANZAC Day for those who live upside down, or Storming of the Bastille for our Francophone friends, with the Maple Leaf attached to the upper batten ties.
Of course on a hot summer day you need to cruise in close, to check out the scenery, I scooted between half a dozen 30-50 footers laying at anchor along the demarcated swim area. Most gave friendly waves, one remarked that he was surprised at how manouveable my blow boat was in tight quarters.
As I left on a beam reach, I pulled up beside & passed a pontoon boat. He remarked that it was surprising how "bloody fast that thing is."
I find nearly all the powerboaters are quite congenial, & without exception alter course when on converging tracks, usually a good distance away if they are bigger boats. I have had a few smaller ski boats pull up alongside just to have a closer look at what the hell is that guy doing hanging over the side.

  • Hey Damon, thanks for letting me use your Beachcats sails that day, we had a blast!

Last week on the SC coast was a great time too. 20+ mph winds out of the south most of the week allowed us take off the beach like a shot thru the surf.
