Hi,
Traded my old boat for a solcat 18. Thinking about adding a composite mast. Anyone know the specifications of the standard aluminum mast(cross section width, length and wall thickness) so I can compare stiffness and mechanical properties?
Thanks !!!

I suppose you mean a carbon mast, like the Nacra 20 uses? Where are you planning on getting such a thing, or can you build one? I know they are ridiculously expensive these days, or every beachcat would have one.

Didn't realiize the Nacra 20 has a carbon mast. Have a link for details? Just an idea at this stage. Talking with Innovative Composite Engineering to see if it is possible by stacking 2 lower sections of an I14 rig on top of each other. Told them the rig needs to be stiff and still has to be reasonable $. We'll see

Cheers!

The Nacra F17 has a carbon stick also. Be interesting to see what you find out.

You may want to think before spending that kind of coin on a very old and very heavy boat. The cost of a new stick for a nacra 6.0 (aluminum) is close to $4000 a carbon stick would be very high (even more)I would think and what would be the advantage over the stock mast?
Here is a thread at SA that may interest you

Thanks for the sa reference. Agree, old boat and heavy. $4k-yikes, no way. Price has to be much less. Its old right? Advantages: less weight. Should give the boat a new personality. Less weight aloft, easier to right, easier to step mast(I'm old too ). Also will probably remove 2 ft from mast and square the top of the main. Have to see what the $ are. Just an idea. Thanks again!

A buddy told me last weekend a new carbon stick for his 18HT is about 10K. This is why the Nacra 20 is developing the aluminum rig.
