Yeah, that does and I get that part... I guess I still didn't know if that was supposed to go inside that track to sort of keep the sail in the middle as you're raising it. Sounds like it doesn't though, sounds like the way I have it is fine. Just looks weird sort of flopping around when I don't have the sail up.
Thanks guys, taking her on her maiden voyage this weekend.

bmerkley, your main halyard consists of 2 pieces, 1 part is wire and the 2nd part is non-stretch line, the line is fed through the mast head sheave from the aft side and 2 nico-press sleeves are swaged onto the wire approx 4 feet apart on the front side. The halyard does not run inside the track on the mast although at times one of the nicopress slug can/would work it's way into the sail track, don't worry about it, it will come out sometime. When raising the sail, pull main halyard at an angle away from the mast untill the sail hits top, then bring halyard perpendicular (parallel) to mast keeping the tension, you want that slug to hook into the halyard hook, it prevents the sail from dropping back down
There is a really good pic that Damon posted for you above, look at the bottom left pic, you can enlarge the pic, see how the main halyard runs between the prongs on the halyard hook? the slug gets trapped between those 2 prongs securing the halyard. Once secure, coil rest of halyard and tuck away.

Nothing goes in the track on the mast except the bolt rope of the sail.
