I'm new to the forum and have a new to me '81 H18SX. The hulls have the reinforcing brackets, but the crossbars do not have the brackets to reinforce where the wings attach / pivot. Please let me know where to buy or how to make these brackets.
Let me apologize in advance if this info is already on Beachcats. I've read a lot and searched for this info but couldn't find it.
Thanks, Bob

Welcome to TheBeachcats.com, yes this has been discussed recently. You can buy the wing brackets (wing installation kit) from a Hobie dealer.
Check this topic on wing installation. There is a link to instructions.

Also, just to use the correct terminology. You really can't have a 1981 Hobie 18SX although you can have a 1981 Hobie 18 with SX or Magnum wings. The SX model was introduced in 1987 and included not just the longer SX wings but also an 18 inch taller mast, vertical cut sails, and optional spinnaker.
I have a 1992 Hobie 18SE
(SE means "Special Edition" which Hobie labeled the 16's and 18's with black anodized beams and mast)
with added SX wings. I consider my boat an 18 Magnum because there is no other name for a Hobie 18 with SX wings.
By the way...
Chicks Dig Wings
So there's that.

Hi guys, I'm a long time reader, 1st time inquirer to the forum. I have a 1984 18 magnum, my little dilema is my starboard rear crossbar wing slug is loose in the tramp track the entry spot , the other 3 slugs are 2 1/4" long, but that one is almost 4" long with the threaded hole off center. I think it was installed backwards originally because the short end is at the very edge of the tramp boltrope entry spot, I need to take it out & turn it around, but I can't get it out. Any ideas? It won't come out of the tramp hole. Do I have to remove the outer casting? -

~~ Hey bgray, I think you might be wrong about the threaded 'slug' ..... Try a piece of wire to get that back up tp the
''entry spot'' and try inserting the seat bracket bolt again..... After I painted my 18 and had to put it back toghter I had the same problem... ya gotta get it perfect.... (That 4" slug is threaded all the way through) It sounds like a 4" slug for a
Hobie 16 shroud anchor/chainplate thingy.... I hope it's not to long ?? Try that first before ya take yer boat apart. ~~~
