2 tillers.. one boat ??  Bottom

  • So being a bit lazy and clumsy and not as agile as I was when I was 65.. Saw a tip in a forum here to place a U shaped bracket (like the one that is the pivot for a Hotstick attached to the crossbar) out near the outboard end of the rudder cross bar to hold the hotstick when swinging it around during tack. If one is good is two better?? How about installing a second hotstick and U bracket.. After starting the tack as you change sides slip the windward one in the bracket and leave it behind. Move to the other rail and pick up the second hotstick and away ya go.. No more droping the darn thing aft or getting it caught in a line or on the boom.. It is nice and neat ready to be picked up and extended.. Class legal ?? Just a thought from a lazy sailer..Cheers Hal

  • Well with the extension that I use mine at, it means the unused side would be digging in the water and slowing me down which is counter productive to my fun.

  • I use the glass extendable one which would retract to be even with the lee side of the hull..

I have considered this myself but to the point of actually making i happen. For starters you double you cost for a good retractable hotstick.

They also make a tiller return

  • The downside of photo #1 Dustin, you could never hike, it's way to short.
There is an album somewhere here that shows how a felow riggerd up two tillers, i'll see if I can find it.

  • Crap, that was post 666, & I spend lots of time in China...might be bad karma, so I had to post again. Maybe Damon can rig the site like a high rise, no 13th floor. In China, the big buildings would never have an address of 666, way to much bad s#$t might happen, & nobody would buy the place.

  • #1 could work if each side was a tad shorter and could telescope individually so like halliske said you could bring one in as you co through your tack/gybe then pull the other out on the other side. The boat those are on I think is marketed as a beginner small sailing boat and may not even have traps.
