I believe I have rigged this all wrong. I have added pics in the catyak section.
Basically I have 2 booms, 1 vertical(diagonal) and one horizontal. Using the holes on the booms that were already there I added an I-hook with a steel ring attached. (One near the top of the vertical boom and one near the front of the horizontal boom.)
I inserted the mast throught the ring of the horizontal boom and the ring at upper top of the vertical boom. I attached a eye hook through the holes aready there at the top of the mast(halyard), inserted a rope through that eye and tied it to the ring on the vertical boom. I made the rope long enough that i could pull the main up to the eye hook by the halyard. This works, but the main is rigid due to the two booms being attached to mast. I think now maybe I should not have inserted mast through top ring on the vertical boom. I hate feeling stupid here...lol

Of course without seeing an original Catyak assembly manual I don't know how it was meant to be rigged, but it appears to use the same system as the Sunfish.
The Sunfish only has a ring on the lower boom to mast connection, and it's a custom part. The main halyard is simply tied to the top boom with a clove hitch and isn't attached to the mast with a ring, once the main halyard is tight the top boom can't move much so doesn't need a ring.
The other thing I noticed from your pictures is that you have the main halyard run down through the lower ring, I wouldn't do that, could get pinched in there.

Link to a copy of the Sunfish assembly manual, check out the sail rigging section. If the diameter of your mast and boom are compatible you might even be able to get one of the Sunfish mast rings to use.

damon is right on...tie the halyard to the verticle boom(gaff) no ring needed there. boom(horizontal) has ring(gooseneck) that mast goes through, this shouldn't be tight on mast so boom can swing and also don't run the halyard through the ring(gooseneck). love me some sunfishes...great learner boats, fun dingy racer. sail should swing easy to both sides.

OK, gents. I see what you are saying. Its rigged almost right, except the top ring does not attach around the mast, it should rig to the boom cap. I am missing the boom cap, so I need to rig something similar. I looked at the sunfish diagram and dont know if the boom cap for it will fit. May need to call to get diameter. My mast is 1 1/2"diameter. -
