Anyone taken a beach cat out on Amelia Island, FL? I located 3 streets with direct access to the beach (Lewis Street, Scott Beach Public Road, and Peters Point). Just wondering how friendly the natives and beach patrol are to the sailing community.

Not sure you can launch at those locations..........I live on the island and have yet seen anyone with a cat in the area. I know theres rules as far down as American beach. They are limiting driving on the beach big time as well.
I have launched in Nassau sound and at Hugenot. Check those areas out. You dont see too may cats here. Most are in Jax and St Augustine area.

i think the tybee 500 always stopped in fernandina beach, huegenot is the way to go though, drive right up back it up, and off you go.

We have sailed to the north end of Amelia Island from the St. Mary's launch in Georgia. We have landed on Amelia and my wife took the tour of Fort Clinch while I baby sat the sailboat. To get to the ocean side of Amelia will be a challenge since you would have to sail out about 2 miles of a jetty channel. Sailing the sound there is pretty cool since you can also land on Cumberland Island and view the wildlife. The only problem is that the ramp has power lines that limit where you can set up. -

So, I'm here this week at Amelia. Just learned that for $5 per day, you can buy a pass that allows you to drive your car, park your car, and launch your boat right on the beach. Only certain areas are accessible by car, but fortunately, one area is right next to the hotel!
How cool is that?
