Not the ones separating the hulls and holding the tramp, but the crossbar (sorry I don't know the correct name) at the bow, the stay?shroud? From the mast anchors to it and the furler for the jib. Its old and has corroded and finally snapped in two. I have a new one on order but was wondering if I could sail the boat without it?
I plan to try attaching all the wires and stays to same anchor points so I'll have a more acute triangle at the front like a Hobie 16 as far as a can tell this spreader helps to keep the bow ends apart. But for light sailing in the meantime might be ok.

The standard Hobie 17 didn't have that support bar anyway. The bar is added with the "Sport" package that adds the jib.
If I remember correctly the standard H17 had two forestays, one to each hull, each forestay runs all the way up to the hound instead of using a bridal like boats with jibs.
The H17 hulls are built pretty light which is why they needed the extra support when using a jib.

~~ Ya can sail the boat without it but I wouldn't use the jib. Thats alott of extra pressure.. Thats whats it's there for. I have a 17 with a super jib and I can really feel it. You could snap yer mast in a strong breeze....

Ok, gotcha. Thanks for the tips. Here's a pic of the patch job that I did yesterday. And only took it out in light winds and relatively flat waters. I can use the club lasers instead, but I much prefer my cat.
Part of the issue is that it's impossible to get parts in Indonesia, so I have to order from overseas, but they do not always make it through customs. It's safer, but slower to reply on friends doing trips from Singapore or Australia to carry parts with them.
A new one is on the way, but I didn't want to waste any sailing this weekend. ;)
