Nacra n20 help. Rigging. Etc.  Bottom

  • Hey everyone.

New to this site but have been a ghost searching and reading for a few months

    Here's where I'm at

I have a nacra 5.0 and have used it for many years. I recently decided to upgrade and got a n20 w. spin and snuffer

I went to rig it and am completely lost.

Wondering if I made a bad decision

    Is a n20 a big commitment??

I live on a river and plan to leave the boat rigged

    I am located in MN
Wondering if I could pay someone to come and show me how to rig and what not. I feel I would understand the boat once fully rigged.

Are there any videos of rigging a n20?

    Thanks.
  • what year is your N20? here is the link to the infusion setup off the nacra europe site ...
http://www.nacrasailing.c…-v1.3-site.pdf&Itemid=80. It basically the same boat setup. There are other setup docs on that site with tips on the mast spreader tension etc.

if it has a self tacker, that could make it look more complicated. w/o the self tacker and the spinnaker, its the same as any cat. I would suggest leaving the spinnaker at home for your first few sails anyway. Just take your time and RTFM.

  • You can leave the spinnaker at home but you will need to take the spinnaker pole and rig it if you have the self tacking jib system.. The controls for the self tacking jib attach to the pole.

Not on my boat, questions would be far easier to answer than just tellin you how to rig. Everyone's boat is a little different.

  • It is a self tacker. That is what I'm struggling with. Blocks on the snuffer
  • The self tacking jib on the N20 uses a cascade system. There are several variations on how it is rigged with the majority using 2 basic set ups. You're probably having problems with the jib clew to jib sheet. It rigs like this: bitter end from the traveler car to a block that attaches to the clew of the jib, then back to the block on the traveler car, then ends on a small bullet block. That bullet block is the connection to the cascade jib sheet line that goes to the jib sheet blocks on the beam. What I have described is the 3:1 on the first line then 4:1 on the jib sheet.

The other popular way is 4:1 on the first line and 2:1 on the jib sheet. If you have two cheek blocks on the spin pole then you can rig it as the first description. If you have a single block on the spin pole then it's the second description.

Do you have a name? Where are you located? Who's boat did you buy? PM me if you need more help.
