Hobie 18  Bottom

  • I just got another H18 after not sailing for about 10 years. Is there anywhere I can find help on rigging? I will need to replace all the cordage. Where can I find the lengths and diameters that work best?
  • Congratualtions! You can find a listing of the various line specs here: http://www.hcana.hobiecla…/hobie18_linelengths.htm. You can download the assembly manual here: http://www.hobiecat.com/s…port/products/sailboats/. Enjoy!
  • Thanks! That's exactly what I needed. The hulls of my "new" boat are pretty good. There's no soft spots, and they feel good. All the cordage needs to be replaced, though.

Welcome fellow H18 sailor, glad to see you. I was starting to feel crowded by all these X boats. icon_evil

  • What are the favorite brands for main sheet and jib sheet cordage? Also, I will need to replace the main halyard and hardware. Is there a source for the Aussie ring? I have just used the old style ring and half shackle, and I was always wondering whether it would release. I learned the trick about rotating the mast and giving the halyard a good yank, but it was always a little dicey. Does the Aussie ring allow for easier release?
  • I had equal success with both styles. You just need the feel for it.

Don't yank, give a steady pull to lift the ring, then rotate the mast. Relax tension on halyard, and have the crew pull on the tack and down she comes.

  • Personally I like the original trophy braid for both main and Jib sheets. Easier on the hands, it will not last as long as the all nylon stuff but I much prefer it. Sometimes the fancy stuff is not the best. JMHO, YMMV Ricardo.
