This Nacra 20 has me drooling, looks like it's been mostly stored. Anyone have experience with black gel coat? I know the black anodized aluminum (that most of us have) gets plenty hot, but fiberglass being more an insulator I'm wondering if it really gets that hot?

It would be hotter on the trailer and beached than in the water - would have to keep the ports open when not in use

DAMN that's a sexy boat!
One thing for sure: open the ports and leave it outside and uncovered, and it's gonna be dry dry dry inside in no time.
If the boat is near you, bring a non-contact thermometer. A friend picked one up for me for less than $20 a couple of years ago. The thing is great for stuff like this. Point, click, and find out just how hot it gets in the sun. In any case I can't imagine it would be much worse to sit on than a black tramp. If it starts to get hot, swing into a wave and let the spray cool things down.
Heat aside, you might contact a gel coat manufacturer to find out what the story is on black gel coat and UV damage. If it's absorbing more in the UV, it may fade faster than lighter colored gel coats. I know red gel coats used to be prone to this. Not sure about modern chemicals.
If you get it, let us know how it is! >drool<

It'll be noticeably hotter, probably uncomfortable where we sail in Florida. I have a friend who painted his mystere 6.0 a dark gray. Looks beautiful but it's hot enough to change the density of the air around it, so you can see the heat waves coming off the thing. No such waves on the white boats. -

I believe that Falcon Marine used to offer dark colors on the F16 with the caveat that they weren't warrantied, but I don't think that page (price sheet IIRC) is on their website any more.

agreed, the battleship grey is uncomfortably hot to the touch and even just being near it, in the full FL sun/heat. Even in the water you can tell a large difference compared to any white boat. -

There was a black beachcat at the lake this afternoon, it was pretty hot. Noticeably cooler than the black anodized Al, but I wouldn't want to sit on it. 40 miles north of Houston (Lake Conroe).

in the summer in fl. it would be too hot to sit on. we had a red inflatable dinghy and it was too hot to sit on. we had to splash water on it where we would sit to tolerate it.

The decks on this boat are light grey. I never noticed the hulls getting too hot. That may because it is in So Cal where it doesn't get too hot. The boat is 10 years old and looks great. It has been in So Cal for two years but lived on the MA area most of its life. It is always covered when not in use.

It is as hot as the black aluminum. Looks nice but not comfortable to sit on while lake sailing unless you continually cool it with water.

Denton13, thanks for checking in.
If you get tired of paying storage and registration fees and want your boat to go to a good home, I'd volunteer to come to California and pick it up. Just sayin... It could have a second life as the star of TheBeachcats.com
