Nacra 5.8 Tuning Guide  Bottom

  • I just bought my first cat, a Nacra 5.8 and have looked desperately everywhere for any information on rigging, tuning, etc...

The previous owner held onto an original publication from Sailing World 1994 on rigging and tuning the boat. I know many people are aware of this article, but I believe many are not so figured I'd upload for everyone's benefit. If this link doesn't work it is available in the photo album Cataraman Techinical Tips. You have to click on the links a few times to download the pdf (and may even just see a red x, but keep clicking...it will download).

Becuase this is a pdf and not a picture, nothing will show here but you will notice a thin empty box here...click on it and it will open the article.

BTW, this article has helped me quite a bit but I would love some pics from other owners on how they have rigged up the mast rotation. Thanks.

  • Thanks Erice. Yes, I've read through this one several times. What I liked about the Sailing World article though are the illustrations. As I'm brand new to sailing, cats and the nacra (yes, complete and total noob), I really needed and still need pictures and diagrams of preferred ways to rig everything. I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I've been able to put most sytems together in a functioning way, but still have some gaps. For example, I'm unsure about how to rig the mast rotation system to forward mast bridle, and how to rig the traveller to the mainsheet (I've rigged it in a way that works, but would love some expert advice on this). Pics or illustrations would be appreciated.

  • Hey Jeremy,
Come out to Grapevine this Saturday. We'll help you set it up. We might have 2 other folks from thebeachcats out there. I think most of the rigging is similiar to my P19. Check your inbox.

  • Uh, can't come out tomorrow, but probably next Saturday. Would love to crew with you and learn. If you will be out there then I'll call you to find out where, when, etc...Thanks for invite. Looking forward it.

Erice, thanks for the advice on the book...I will buy today. Pretty tough self-learning everything.

Nacra55, since there are some local dudes here with similiar boat I won't waste your time...I'll just meet up with them and make myself real annoying by asking too many questions. Ha. Thanks though.
