Somewhere in the forums I thought I saw a discussion about a device you can have aboard the cat that would allow your shore crew to monitor your progress via the Internet while you are on the water. Anyone familiar with this?

If you have an gps smartphone you can use the MapMyTracks app. If the regatta were to setup a Map My Tracks event in the website anyone could view the positions of all participants who are willing to use the app and take their phone.
I like to take my iPhone in it's lifeproof case but I don't turn on the GPS all the time because it sucks juice.
MotionX iPhone GPS app also let's you share your location easily.
Other than that their are companies that offer the service and equipment for events. I wish all regattas would use them and issue GPS to each boat and have big screen somewhere where all could watch.
