L'Hydroptere in San Francisco and Headed to Hawaii  Bottom

  • As if San Fransisco didn't already have enough really fast multihulls in the bay with the Americas Cup World Series going on.

The amazing L'Hydroptere has arrived in San Fran and is waiting for the perfect weather window to attempt to break the Trans Pacific record between San Fransisco an Hawaii.

Current record is held by Olivier de Kersauson of France on a 90 foot Trimaran in 4 days 19 hours 31 minutes averaging 19.17 knots. Considering that Hydroptere holds the outright sailing speed record for for the nautical mile at 50.17 knots and has proved capable of offshore journeys...

What's really cool is that former beachcat guru and now roaming sailing reporter Jeremy Leonard was able to get a ride on the flying trimaran today. He's posted video and has a story coming on his Sail Revolutions site.
