Our fearless leader of our sailing group went to the F18 Worlds, Didn't even bother to tell most of us. Gonna have to pick his brain next weekend on how it was.

So for 30K new boat and 10K travel expenses, 40K Total with the SKILL and DETERMINATION one can compete at a World Level and Event. WHAT A DEAL. A new Chevy Tahoe costs more.

Your numbers are way off.
New boat: 20,000 (if you know how to negotiate)
Very competitive used boat: 10-15,000
Travel expenses: 1,000-3,000 (depends on where you're coming from) -

$23K buys you a new boat. $12K buys you a competitive boat (Tyler was on a chartered Tiger, that's a $8k boat+new sails). $7k for travel costs. You can for sure do the event under $10K and not own a F18.
Placing in the top 25 is unlikely no matter what equipment unless you've been racing forever in other high level classes or been doing a lot of high level F18 racing. The guys in the top 10 are paid by boat builders and a few of them happen to race a lot against each other. Still it comes down to priorities and determination. -

How cheap could it be to compete in a 'world' level event in any sport?
Boats in general are an expensive hobby, but competing in the F18 world championship seems to be almost impossibly affordable compared to any other sport.

Tyler that is AWSOME, I know my numbers were way off, however the point is I can not think of another "World Class Sport" that is possible for really not that much money, if one has the determination, dedication, and skill that you have acquired.
Keep rocking, and keep the videos coming
Sincerely
