I am looking into a Taipan 4.9. From what I can find on the Internet it looks like A nIce boat for single handing or light crew. Anyone have experience with these boats? They seem to be relatively rare in the US.
Not many produced, not many if any for sale. There was one floating around FL for a while but I think it sold. Parts will be tough to get. I really do not know much about the boat other than they are scarce. HTH, Ricardo.
Yes I found one for sale here in Texas. I have made arrangements to look at it this weekend. Boat has a spinnaker setup, but is not the wider F16 version. My experience has been with Hobie 16s and 18s. I would like to get some experience with a more modern design and learn how to sail with a spinnaker. I also, like the fact that the boat has a portsmouth rating for both single handing (main only) and 2up with the jib and spinnaker.
A newer F16 is out of my price range.
I am concerned about finding parts. I was wondering if it shared any parts with the more recent AHPC cats.
Not sure about parts commonality, but AHPC still builds the Taipan 4.9 in Australia so you should be able to get replacement parts through their dealer network: http://www.ahpc.com.au/in….php/catamarans-3/taipan
FYI even unmodded you can race boat for boat against the F16's. Might not win all the time but it'll still be fun!

Interesting.
Possibly they have blocked com.au sites here at work.
I'll try from home. This Taipan sounds interesting.
