I did a cursory search through the archives but couldn't find anything. Does anybody know anything about this cat. It was recently placed in the mast-up storage area in Marina Del Rey in California. A local cat sailor suggested it was designed in the 60s by famed surfers Phil Edwards and Mickey Munoz. It is approx. 25' 10" long and in very good shape.
Thanks,
Bill

Given the shape of the bowline and deck, my first thoughts are its a Dick Newick
design. A famous multihull designer from California. Check out his work here;

There are quite a few innocuous words that also have slang connotations that are auto banned. I asked Damon about one a few years ago, & he manually took it of the shit list.
One work around, to borrow from Monty Python, is to substitute words, such as Biggus Dikkus

It's mentioned specifically in this thread:
http://www.boatdesign.net…ls/what-cat-26483-2.html
Sailed and possibly designed by Phil Edwards.
This article:
http://articles.orlandose…tamaran-design-multihull
seems to back up the idea that it was designed by Edwards.
Any chance you can catch the owner with the boat at some point? It'd be cool to find out who's sailing it these days!

Wow.....that's some great sleuth work, Tom!! I think you have found it!! Next time I'm at the marina with my camera I'll take some pictures of El Gato from the same angles posted in your article.
If Bill was offering a prize for identifying it.....I believe the prize would be yours! Very Impressive work, thank you!! -

Tom, I just got back from sailing in the Caribbean, so this is my first check on recent posts. I read your articles and the information contained is interesting. Since Jeff's P-Cat is only about 100 feet away from El Gato in the mast-up storage, next time we are there we will leave a message for the present owner. I am sure he should know a fair amount about the boat's history.

Hey Bill and Tom....
Maybe everyone else has already noticed this, but the El Gato Cat in Marina del Rey is the very same cat in the pictures you showed us, Tom, in your link on www.boatdesign.net....as verified by its CF number!
