This trailer is right here at the Beachcats, and is more affordable. And probably where that guy got his idea from (note date of 2002, I think he built it in '01)

The Tilly Trailer mentioned by Jay is by far the coolest in operation, but this one built by Mike Krantz for his Carbon 20 (10.5 feet wide) is the simplest one I've seen.
One man operation, no motors, cables, or winches, just two hydraulic struts.
video and bigger pictures in the Tech gallery.

in south carolina 10'width is legal. in fl. a special permit is required for 11' width. a one time permit is 5-25$ a annual permit is over 300$ . -

Would you mind sharing where you got that spec on SC trailers? I've have always found a legal trailer width limit of 102" which I believe is a federal limit.
By the way, you will need an oversize permit for EVERY state that you travel through. Some of them are not as easy to get. I know a guy in GA that has 10.5' trailer and wanted a annual permit that is talked about online, the state would not issue him one. He takes his chances with no issues, but he also pulls that trailer with an RV so it does not look as wide.

It's not quite as simple as up to 120" but the boat exemption makes sense.

Like Damon's post best, if I can't sell the P 18-2 with trailer this
spring, I will build a Steve Krantz - like design, simple and light.
As a base for that I'm planning to use a second hand 2 axle trailer.

Oops, fixed my post. Funny thing, I think the Carbon 20 and trailer from my earlier post is now in the classifieds.

It is NOT Steve. His name is Mike Krantz.
Sorry, my fault, for once I did not copy/paste a name and immediately
I made this mistake.
