Beam reach 3/10/2013, Potomac River  Bottom

  • I modded a Supercat 20 into a 'trailer sailor.' Normally the 20 has a 12 foot beam which is a pain in the butt for towing not to mention quite illegal. Since we move about and launch from different sailing spots all over the Chesapeake Bay the solution (for me) was to narrow the boat to a street legal width.

Here she is on the shake down cruise. I like the results.

  • Just curious, how wide is it now?

  • That trailer width SC20 would be a blast and a handful at the same time.

  • Pete, I kept her a tad over street legal, 8'12". icon_wink I figure the cops aren't gonna drag out a tape measure. She's got the stock 33' mast, I wouldn't go that narrow with the tall rig (38'). The Supercat 19XL has the same mast and is 8'6 on the beam. I ran the idea by Tom at Aquarius Sails and he gave it a thumbs up. The Arc 21 is also 8'6" so it's not like I was entering uncharted waters. I had 205 on the wire the day of the video and there was no need to double trap.
