Over winter I have purchased new VPC and Vectran lines from APS to replace running rigging on my N5.0. I have found that old fasion end melting doesn't really work. It melts only outer shell, leaving inner fillament intact and exposed to chaffing. Before I order a can of rope whipping or a tape from West Marine I thought that I will ask here what you guys are using. Do you think that dipping in super glue will work?

I used this link to whip my main and spin sheet. Works out pretty good and keeps the ends tight.

If you tape the end very tight and cut it clean and then soak it in THIN Super glue it mayhold together for a season or two. You may get very sharp edges that cut your flesh, however.
Heat shrink tubing can work well. Find a size that is just bigger than your line and heat it with a match or hairdryer on high- doesn't take long- and then cut it offnear the edge with a sharp virgin razorblade and melt the end like the grip end of a baseball bat so it won't ever slip off. I have used this on rescue ropes and it has lasted decades.
Or whip the end and cut it off close to the whipping. It is easy and last long if you get it tight. http://captnmike.com/2011…kes-quick-rope-whipping/

Get the heat shrink with an adhesive inside. When it shrinks you can squeeze the adhesive out and around the end of the rope gluing everything together. The heat shrink won't fall off and the end won't fray.
