These things are kind of expensive, I was thinking about wrapping a couple of layers of resin soaked fiberglass cloth all the way round. Maybe with a washer embedded for the line to go through.
Any suggestions

Ken, go to your local Hobie dealer, they will have, or can get them, save you the shipping costs. Even here in Canada they are only $8.99
You can buy all the parts, bearings, etc for those furlers. They are very easy to take apart. I would pull it apart & see if the bearings/cage are corroded & fix everything in one shot.

I agree, change out the housing. It's pretty easy and inexpensive. While you're at it, inspect the bushings and the stainless steel yoke (where the bridles connect) as these can crack.
There is an exploded view of the furler assembly at the end of the H18 assembly manual....

And an instructional Youtube video as well....

Ken, your post inspired me to get off my butt & rebuild a Hobie 18 furler that the scoundrel HULLFLYER assured me was in "great" shape.
I took a few photos & put them here;

I'm sure you have dealers for the parts, here is a Canadian site that I got mine from. They show all the part #'s.
The bearings are a 616xxxxx part #, so they are back a page. The site is ordered numerically, the parts you require are about pg 48. If I type "Hobie Furler" into the search box, I get all the results, but the page won't link in this post, it only brings you to a generic search.
I didn't know that the casing you require, along with the drum can be purchased together for only $9.

Thanks Edchris, pete and dogboy, I was able to buy the parts I needed for $20 shipped, and am the proud owner of a rebuilt roller furler. I did like your pictures and documentary though. This was my only winter project so I guess I will just go sailing.
