Islamadora sailing  Bottom

  • I'm going to be in islamadora on April 26, 2014 an would like to jump on a cat while I'm down there. It looks like there are a couple places that may rent Hobies, looking for a little more pep in a ride. Anyone in the area that wants to hit the water and needs crew, let me know. I've run a N-5.0, 5.7, 5.8, 6.0, I20, sol-18, H-16, H18, Bimar-18ht. Would love to crew for someone just to get on the water! I hate to go on vacation without my boat. I20 and N5.0 won't fit in the overhead on the plane. HELP!!!

Should be in Turks and Caicos the following year and will need to get my fix, any ideas?
  • Talk to Dennis at Islander water sports. He rents mostly Hobies, but owns a tricked out Nacra. He could probably help find you something with a little more zip. A sail out around Alligator reef lighthouse is a blast, also Indian key is a cool little island to have lunch on, just off the south east tip of Islamorada.
  • Thanks JALEX, I'll get ahold of him And see if he's game. What's the chances for decent wind at the end of April?
  • I spent a week there in early August. It was blowing about 15 everyday out of the east/northeast with only one afternoon shower. The locals said that was typical.
  • The only wind issue you may have down there is too much.

  • We had a mixed bag of wind at Tradewinds last year. Generally light and shifty, but all said that it was rare occurrence.

  • 6 out of 7 dry days in not typical in florida in august or any hot month

there are prevailing wind and weather patters but they are easily disrupted and over ruled by the heat and humidity

expect rain anywhere at any time in florida in the hot months - if there is enough moisture - all day long, if not when the east sea breeze and the west sea breeze collide - expect thunder

  • I'm hoping to get in some sailing, but may have to settle for kayak and paddle board if i don't find a good ride.
  • Last time I was in the area was the winter of '84. I drove down to Miami from Camp Pendleton with a couple buddies and my Hobie 16. Slept on the beach somewhere in the area, drank a lot, ate a little, slept a very little, drove back to Sneads Ferry. Must have been a 96.
Spent most of the summer of '84 checking out of the MC. I didn't have to go to work, so, I usually took the 16 to the beach between Pendleton and Wilmington NC , just about every day , out there thumping jellies.

I remember it was quite a drive to the tip of Florida. I never liked anyone else to drive my car, especially with the boat attached, so I drove straight through after work. I'm pretty sure that if I had let anyone else drive, , at the least, the boat would end up wrecked, at most, all dead.
  • April in the keys. Expect wind. 25 knots and a hobie wave can be a real kick.
  • Is there anyone in the Loxahachee area? I need someone to look at a boat for me.
