Ok, the Charlotte Harbor Regatta is coming up. I want to go down for regatta.
Question they have on their website http://www.charlotteharborregatta.com/ this year they are adding the class of "Olympic-class Nacra 17 "
I have a older 2001 NACRA I-17. Aside from stickers and dagger boards (new is curved/old straight) boats seem pretty similar. The older one (mine) is about 50lbs heavier (probably AL vs Carbon mast).
Question: Can I enter a older boat in that category, obviously I accept the fact their is an advantage to newer boat, but if I accept that on entry can I still enter that class???

There are A LOT more differences between the two boats than your making out, and the 50lb weight difference isn't in the mast. Maybe 10 lbs there. Completely different hull shapes, sail plans, boards, rigging, yeah pretty much everything. Maybe the beams are similar? Probably not (likely an Infusion section). Not to mention the Olympica Nacra 17 is designed to be raced 2-up vs. the I-17 1-up. The Olympic Nacra 17, with Olympic hopefuls aboard and all the changes above, is likely to be a fair bit quicker around the course, especially as the breeze comes up.
I think you're better off registering as a single handed F16 and seeing if you can race with them.

Have you seen an Olympic Nacra 17 in person? the Nacra F17 and the Nacra 17 are not really very similar.
Looking at the Charlotte Harbor notice of race it looks like they have all one-design classes with no open-class listed.

You should contact the organizers and ask directly if your F17 would be welcome

Thank you for the answers, so the answer is "No Way" I have access to a Weta I may just enter with it.
Now the question is how to get a weta to fit on my catamaran trailer
If anyone is in Clearwater FL area and may want to ride down let me know, I'll be rockin a Suburban or Camper van.
