Hey guys,
I have a Prindle 16 (1984) with a broken mast pivot. It makes it very difficult to mount the mast (even with 3 guys!).
Do you guys have any ideas how to fix it? Welding? Will it hold?
Thanks,
P.S. will try to attach a picture

MrPrindle, Welcome to TheBeachcats.com,
What exactly is broken? Instructions for adding your own album for your pictures is in my signature below.
This is a common problem, parts are available.

Sounds like either the stainless hinge is broken or one of the flange (aluminum) holes on mast base has torn away. Pete -

Yup.
You need a new mast base.
Look for P16 parts here in the classifieds, or just contact pbegel via private message, as Pete stocks parts like this for sale and will ship.
Three rivets and you are back in business.
Your mast pivots dangerously raising and lowering without the two tabs on the mast base intact.
Don't get hurt or hurt someone else with that broken mast base.
We'd rather hear about how much fun sailing your cat is.

Good job on the pictures, worth a 1,000 words I'm told.
To help the next Prindle 16 owner with this problem I've moved the album into the "Beachcats Technical" album and renamed it "Prindle 16 Mast Base". The link stays the same and is still associated with your username so you can add more pictures.
Please take pictures as you remove the old casting and install the new one and add them to the album.
Also, when you are looking at your album.
http://www.thebeachcats.c…ctures/?g2_itemId=107979
and logged in, you will see a link in the left menu "Edit Captions".
If you add a bunch of pictures and then click "Edit Captions" you can easily add/edit titles, summaries, and long descriptions for each picture. As you found, things that are obvious once you've done them can be complete mysteries.

MrPrindle I also meant to add that you are still free to add another album to "Personal Albums" for your sailing adventures.

Quick Update:
Mounted the mast on the catamaran yesterday, was very easy compared to last year without the mast base ;)
Installing the new mast base was quite easy (thanks pete!), but removing the old one was a pain....drilling out these old rivets was a pain and then the base was welded on the mast by the previous owner!!! Had to use a grinder to take it off.
Almost ready to sail now, got to figure how to install the roller furler for my jb. -
