Hi,
I'm new to sailing. Looking at an 81 Prindle 16 on craigslist for $1250 OBO. It seems to be in good shape except for the tops of the pontoons. They're soft. The bottoms, sides, and top areas where the crossbars mount are very solid. Sail, trapeze, and trailer are excellent. Can you sail the boat with soft tops? Don't really want a big fiberglass project. Does it seem like a decent deal?
Here are a few pictures: http://www.tuffwing.com/Prindleweb/
Here's a video that show's the damage: http://youtu.be/B6lDp-R-Z1Q
Thanks,
Brian

From the looks of it *NO*
I would say that's worth about $200 as a whole boat.
You'll need to drill and fill for it to be a boat you can sail.

That is NOT OK

Thanks RWJ! I should have explained that picture.
The glass is not cracked there. It's actually in good shape. I think somebody rolled on gelcoat on top of the fiberglass. They didn't remove any of the hardware. That picture is gelcoat peeling. Here's a video that show's the damage: http://youtu.be/B6lDp-R-Z1Q -

From the looks of things that Prindle hasn't been in the water for a while..... Mine was a free to a good home in similar condition.
For starters, new running and standing rigging should be installed. Hows the tramp?
Now for the hulls, epoxy and filling it can be done but its another project....
There are many Prindles around, find a solid one for a few bucks more.

Yes, move on. Don't get a project boat for your first unless you like working on them and spending money more than sailing.
