I've been slowly piecing together this puzzle of a project-prindle 19!
Today I was totally stumped by the downhaul system...I have a smyth Dacron set of sails, and the tack of the main doesn't have a grommet or anything to hook up the downhaul to, just a quick pin...it's weird hand I think I'm clearly missing someone. Can someone give me some ideas? Maybe I need to put in some cheek blocks on either side? Do they connect with pins or is that why the quick ion is there?

No grommet on the lower several feet of the luff of the main?

Yes, looks like your missing a set of cheek blocks. Interesting that it's 3 holes. I would have thought there would have been 2 cheek blocks on either side of the sail.
Got a pic of the bottom foot or so of you mast? Expecting to see a cheek block, a clam cleat and a pivoting exit block on either side and a single block in the center of the base.

Probably the micro (16MM) but could be the 29mm.
Probably 29's on your mast.

It's a Harken cheek, murrays # 28-0092, $19.30 ea. Use a small pr of stainless bolt & nut to attach. Pete -

Goldstar, I went out and took a couple of cellphone photos of my P-19 Smyth main downhaul blocks. I also have 2 cheek blocks that are mounted on the mast near the boom attach point. Some P-19's have a different set-up on the mast. I have a line about 3-4 feet long tied to the mast/boom gooseneck, this line is routed up to one of the sail cheek blocks, down to cheek block on mast, back up to other cheek block on sail, back down to other CB on other side of mast, back up to regular block on sail and finally back down to base of mast where I have a jam cleat. All lines run through the mast rotator.

I think I figured the photos out, crazy how a person has to go to so much trouble to post a photo here.
I'm now realizing I need to replace the corroded rivits on plate. lol

This is great, thanks Morris, the pics are a huge help. I ordered a set of cheek blocks, will put it all together and see if it makes more sense...do you think I need the hanging block as well or will it work with just the cheeks? Also since you have the same sail and boat, I'm wondering which sail battens you use? I have to get a new set, not excited about spending the money on them, but for sure want everything to work correctly...thanks again!

Goldstar...I'm not sure what brand battens I have. I know they are glass. I had a Prindle 16 that had the foam battens and they work really well. They cost more and break easy. Just stick with glass. I know several of the major sail lofts/designers use RBS battens. I've heard they are one of the best.

You need the small single block that hangs from the tack plate. That way you get 5:1 on the downhaul. (I think that is right. lol -

they are used a lot in modern cat sails and sail lofts
I have a matched set in my 6.0 main and jib (matched to the sail)- it is nice but you pay for it
i would recommend new battens with new sails, but you can get away with replacing a few broken ones with old and used ones ..
I have mixed types (glass and foam) in my 5.5 main and f18 mains I own
