P16 with mast left up  Bottom

  • We have had a P16 for about a month now and love the boat. We keep it on the beach in our back yard with the mast up all the time. Question hit me, do I need to de-tune one shroud every time or can I leave the rig tight? The PO had the rig fairly loose.

  • Keep rig tight by connecting the jib sheets (via carbineer) to forestay, then pull sheet tight. Keeps shrouds from bending in the wind so that breakage occurs at nicropress.. You are very lucky, where is your lake? Pete
  • The PO had the side stays on the number 5 holes which allowed the rig to be a bit sloppy. I loosened up the forstay about 1/4 " since it was all the way tight and followed the user guide and tightened the rig to the number 7 holes. This also set the mast rake back some. The forstay was a bit short for the jib and this helped. I should mention that I am the second owner so this is the original rigging. With it set to factory ready to sail the rig is tight at rest when I put it up for the night. I just did not know if I need to de-tune it. We have a place on a creek off the Cheaspeake.

  • Ayah, keep her tight or she'll slop around and chafe. Pull the shrouds together with a piece of line while you're at it.
    What creek?

  • I'm mast up, on trailer, down at Lewisetta,VA just up from the mouth of the bay. The rig on my Super Cat seems to stay tight. I'll give it an extra shake next trip.
