The 14th running of Hiram's Haul is set for October 31 - November 1. The catamaran race is a total 60 mile race running from Melborne, Florida to Sebastian, Florida on Saturday and back to Melbourne on Sunday. Hiram’s Haul started in 1997 has been hosted by Performance Sail and Sport until last year when Sail Series Promotions USA took over as the Organizing Authority (AO). It is one of four races of the Endurance Sail Series and each day counts for points separately.

Rumor has it we added another F18 from the F18 America's. We have a great mix of Spin and Non Spin boats.
Mark Herendeen is planning a sail from near his house to the POW/MIA Park (Race Start) on Friday which is just over 20 miles. Anyone interested can set up at the park in his neighborhood. Be prepared to launch by 1:00pm.
Mark and Lisa are also going to have a casual social at their house Friday night starting at 6:30. Eat before you come and BYOB. His house is a great location for a party.
This is all last minute and very casual but should be a lot of fun. New sailors can talk to the "Old Salts" about the course and of course Saturday's party. I will send out and post more info on this Monday.
We will have live tracking all weekend so download the Kattack app and have your phone charged up for the race. I will also be doing live video of the starts testing software. I will have my van for any luggage transport and to shuttle to and from Captain Hiram's.
My family is coming up Saturday and we are probably going to wear costumes Saturday night.

Hiram’s Haul Friday Pre-Race Events
Mark Herendeen is organizing a practice feeder race from a private community park in Melbourne Beach (ironically only 1000 feet from his house), for a warmup fun distance race north to MIA-POW Park on Friday. The run is a little over 20 miles. Any teams wishing to join in must have boats rigged by 1:00 and ready to go. Kattack tracking will be available for this pre-race event so you can test the system and your smart phone. Please have your smart phone charged with the Kattack app downloaded.
On Friday evening Mark and Lisa Herendeen will also be hosting a social event at their house starting at 6:30 pm. Sailors are welcome to a spaghetti/meatball dinner social. There is one catch…you HAVE to let them know you are coming and how many guests you are bringing. The event is BYOB. This social is intended to allow time to get know everyone, plan for next year and discuss the addition of one other distance race from Downtown Melbourne’s Riverview Park as well as regattas out of that park.
The Friday evening social is also a great time to ask other experienced sailors about the race, course, conditions and sailing in general. There may be a chalk-talk/white board discussion Friday evening at the house.
80% of Hiram’s Haul takes place in the City of Melbourne’s portion of the Indian River Lagoon passing right by Downtown Melbourne. The last causeway going south the fleet passes under leads into the Downtown area. The 15 acres and 400 feet of waterfront that is Riverview Park sits just about 800 feet from the ICW that Hiram’s Haul follows.
NOTE = Ground crew is not necessary for the Hiram’s Haul but the 1st day (Saturday) finish ends at Founders Park has a huge parking lot allows for lots of trailers, so ground crews have ample space to park trailers if you want, very close to the boats. There is going to be at least 1 trailer rig and a pickup truck available to carry your dolly wheels, gear and bags.
Information on the social will be available at MIA-POW Park on Friday afternoon or contact Craig Van Eaton (561.371.2663) at info@SailSeries.com. For more information on the fun run contact Mark Herendeen directly or Craig Van Eaton.
Sail Series Promotions wants to give a special thanks to Mark and Lisa for organizing this fun run and social. These types of extra activities help make the race weekend special for the sailors and race committee.

Thanks Damon. Mark and Lisa really stepped up to the plate to also help promote the race, the Melbourne area and Space Coast. There is also going to be a huge blowout at Captain Hiram's Saturday night!
You need to leave your boat down here one year and just commute doing some of these distance races. I heard Juana's was a great event as well.
