Hi, we live in Wantagh, NY, (Gateway to Jones Beach), and very close to the Great South Bay. Friends of ours took us sailing this summer on their Hobie 21 SC, and we were instantly hooked! We are interested in finding one as close to Long Island, New York as possible. It's OK if Cat needs some hull work, as my boyfriend builds and repairs surfboards. If you are aware of anything in this area, or not too far away, we would appreciate if you could let us know. Many thanks. -

Welcome to TheBeachcats.com, hopefully someone can point you to the perfect boat.
Do you have sailing experience besides the ride on your friends H21SC? It's great to have an experienced friend with the same boat, so you'll have that going for you.
Good luck,

There's one in the classifieds right now.

21 Sport Cruisers are pretty rare though. If you're open to other designs, you will have more options to choose from.

@ Dogboy- hi there! Yes, that's the one that we spotted. has a little ding in one of the front hulls, but was fixed and is described as watertight. problem is, how to get it from Michigan to Long Island. Damon suggested joining this forum to gain knowledge and insight from others who know much more about this stuff than we do.
@ Damon - our friend is a sailing instructor for the local town....we would be open to other models, but the draft has to be under 1 foot....the Great South Bay of Long Island is pretty shallow. -

Is there something specific about the SC that makes you want one? For a shallow area you might be better served with one of the many asymmetric no board boats. There are too many to list. Centerboards like on the SC are the second best choice and can be found on several boats including the Hobie 21SE, Prindle 18-2 and 19,
and the Tornado to mention a few. If you are in love with the front tramp then look at getting a Gcat. No boards and front tramp. Most seem to be in the south though. Your level of experience and how much "excitement" you
are looking for will heavily influence your decision. Michigan isn't that far LOL. Be a great weekend adventure for you to get the boat you want.
