Alternative halyard ring (Kiwi Ring)  Bottom

  • Thought I would share the halyard ring (Kiwi Ring) lol I fabricated for the B-lion.I wanted to find an alternative to rotating the mast.Pull the halyard till the ring engages the hook,to lower pull the halyard up so the ring clears the hook, it then slips off to one side of the hook, then you can lower the sail.I lost about 1 to 1.5 inches of sail height but as this cat is 48 years old and not cutting edge I thought was acceptable :)Works, great without the hassle of rotating the mast

  • Couldn't really see how extending the distance between the shackle and the ring helps? Maybe since the connecting rod has to go to one side or the other when the ring is above the hook that forces the ring to the side as it comes down.

Still seems like it might re-hook, but must be working for you!

  • What is so difficult about rotating the mast?

    sm
  • Damon, yes the rod slips to one side of the hook prevents the ring from re engaging.
Dogboy, one less step to lowering sail
