Damon, your surprise is shared by many. Cat sailors look at their solid hulls, good tramps, & colorful sails and put a value on them cumensorate with their perception of what it would cost to replace the package and knowing what a new H-16 or F-18 sells for. Unfortunately there's something called the marketplace. And it's like oil today. You cannot sell a P-16 in San Diego for $500. Been a couple there for over a year. One came on for $100 last week with a new tramp, then disappeared. It's back on probably cause somebody told him tramp was worth $300 & sails $400, so now if you buy tramp & sails, you get boat & trailer. There's a Hobie 18 with wings for $500, doesn't sell in a month. Your classifieds are full of cats for sale and the usual comment is "had many good years, but getting too old now". The market in Calif has really crashed, not quite as badly as other parts of the country, but it's a sign of the times. Small local racing & a few long distance races is only hope I see for future.
