Installing new tramp  Bottom

  • I have installed a new tramp on my Prindle 19 using 1/4" dyneema for lacing. I tightened the tramp on a relatively cool and overcast day and it remains rather taught so far, however I haven't placed any weight on it. My question is should I retighten on a sunny, hot day in order to get the tramp "drum tight"? Specifically, how tight does the tramp need to be?

  • On boats where the tramp contributes significantly to the overall frame stiffness (like H14 & H16), you want it to be very tight. On all other boats, just make it nice and snug so your rear end isn't dragging in the water - it's mostly a comfort thing. Sounds like you got it as tight as it needs to be.

  • not sure about the prindle but my mystere 5.5 loves the tramp snug and it helps with boat stiffness.

Dyneema is know to have a little bit of creep (elongation over time that does not end) so you may still need to tighten it up from time to time - but this should be pretty minimal
  • I tighten ever year in the spring .
  • tension it again after you sail it.
