Things are picking up now. The aluminum parts are now all painted, the hulls, boards and rudders are all primed. Several parts including the boom are now back together. Repairs are now essentially all done. What remains is more sanding to perfect the primer coating and then a lot of rolling and tipping. I think the rolling and tipping is best done by two people, but that means getting my wife involved and that is just not her sort of thing. I may have to do much more thinking about that, no need to make this a divorce boat.
When this thing is all back together I will write a General Sailor topic about why doing this kind of work on these older boats is worth it. Much of this work is tedious, but not beyond most peoples skill level, particularly when they have a good idea of what is involved. Working with fiberglass is almost like being back in kindergarten and playing with paste and paper. Big messes and big smiles.

I should also add that my shop now looks like a Navy shipyard with these gray hulls. I'm already not missing the grid pattern on the decks.

I liked you last vid clip on the progress you are making, it is motivating me to redo my n5.2
awhile back I added a series of pic's on my method for making nacra end caps.
I used 3" PVC pipe caps but I liked you idea to make them from teak

I did see your pics on making end caps and will sort of modify your procedure to use wood. It just seems like some wood would really dress up a plastic boat! I also have to justify some of those tools that are now all covered up.
Also this afternoon I started wet sanding out the beams and then remembered yet another important tool in my shop a Porter Cable automotive polisher. Using a Mequirers mirofiber terry cloth pad and some heavy cut fluid I have now worked out the bugs from my spray painting job on one beam. This tool would be useful to anyone that needs to clean up oxidized gelcoat or to clean up any paint finish, inluding stuff on your wife's car (that's how you justify the tool).
