centerboard removal Hobie Cat 17  Bottom

  • Hi All,

So, finally the boat is now in parts.
Separating the beams and hulls after some 30 years wasn't easy i can tell...
Much to do in the winter with the hulls, but at least no cracks in the beams.

Anybody here knowing how to take out the centerboards from the hulls??
  • Put the boat up on the trailer so the bottom of the hull is at least about a foot and a half above the ground. Then untie the handle (stopper) at the end of the centerboard adjustment line and slowly lower the board down. If the line is old and needs to be replaced, it may be easier to just cut the line.

The centerboard is held in the hull by a hook at the very front of the board itself and by the adjustment line. Once the adjustment line is released, the back of the board can drop all the way down and the front of the board (hook) can be lifted off of the pivot pin. There is also a torsion spring at the front of the board that will drop out with the board. The spring simply engages a depression in the top of the centerboard trunk. It is s very simple system.
