I have just ordered a pair of 6.0 hulls from Holland, although I will not receive them in a month or so. Was first looking for 5.8 hulls but didn´t get them.
Will build a new cat from spare parts. The main and rudders was all I needed to add, bought a pair of Marstrom Tornado rudders and an Inter 20 square top Pentex main. At the moment I am building the front beam with stainless DS-strap and the rotator from scratch.
As I want to prepare some items before I receive the hulls, I hope that anyone of you with a 6.0 within reach, please could help me with three simple measurements.
1 Distance between inside of hulls measured along the front beam.
2 Distance center to center of front and rear beam sockets measured along the hull.
3 Distance center to center of front beam socket and bridle chainplate measured along the hull.

Impressive. Consider applying electricity from lightning and bring it to life :)
Good luck, sorry I can't answer your questions. Just in case it's not on your radar, beams are normally bolted from the inside too:

Lars, pretty cool project!
So Nacra still had the 6.0 hull molds and was willing to build on set of hulls? Or did they have NOS (New Old Stock) hulls in storage?

Hi Damon,
Actually it is "Used Old Stock"!
Nacra 5.8 is still built in Australia, though.

Just found out distance between hulls should be the same as 5.5, ie close to 215cm.
Width inside hulls 193cm.
So who can help with distance: Center of front beam socket to bridle chainplate?
Please, this would help a lot!

Lars,
Probably will get a chance in the next day or two to get out to my boat and will get the measurements if no
one else does first.

Lars,
Was able to stop by my boat. The measurements that I found doing my best without help are:
Distance between hulls under the main beam= 193cm or 76"
Center of front beam to center of rear beam= 221cm or 87"
Center of front beam to center of hole in bridle tang measured along inside of hull=217.33cm or 85 9/16"
These are from a Nacra 6.0 NA

Great Pete,
I am really grateful for your help and concern!
193cm with 8.5" beams inside is what I hoped for, as I made the new front beam with enough room at the ends of the DS-strap to be cut down. Beam is 320cm with 29cm free to the strap ends, to suit the 5.5 and will be cut out to 33cm for the 6.0 hulls.
As the discussion above is only theoretical, the worst case scenario is that I will have to add another hole inside and fold the strap a little shorter. No problem to straighten the first fold as stainless is forgiving.
But I now understand, should have asked for the measure from the DS-strap end to beam end .
Distance to bridle leaves perfect space for using the 49er 5,7sqm selftacking jib, with its foot just below 200cm. As I already have the jib, track and traveller, this will be an easy fix.
About the distance beam to beam, it seems to be the same as the 5.5, which means I can use the same folding wings to begin with.
Below is the completed front beam lying on the 5.5 hulls. In the middle image of my initial post the extra material to be cut away from the strap for the wider 6.0 hulls, can be seen. Also an image of the folding wings, that will be hinged over the inside beam straps this time, due to the wider beams.
Hope I can help you sometime!
Thanks again!

Lars,
I will be over at the place where the boat is stored this weekend. Please explain what DS-strap to end of beam
means. If DS means dolphin striker then you probably know from the 5.5 that the dolphin striker strap contacts stainless plates on the inside of the hulls. Let me know what you are looking for and I will get the measurements.

Lars,
I have an end piece of a beam here at my house. There are three bolts that mount each end of the DS strap
to the beam. The distance from the center of the first hole (closest to the beam end) to the beam end
measures 32.7cm or 12 7/8 inches. I can still get to the boat and try and measure from the end of the strap,
but will be difficult since the striker end is against the inside of the hull. I can measure from the strap end to
the center of the above mentioned mounting hole.

Pete,
This is from an old worn 18SQ beam I have. If we suppose that we have the same distance from the last hole of the 6.0 strap, I´m good.
As the distance to the beam end is 32.7cm minus the distance from the strap end to the center of the hole, ca 1cm = 31.7cm, there will be no problem. I now have 29cm plus the 4cm that can be cut away from the strap end = 33cm max allowable. So plenty of space for the 6.0 hull width.
As it looks short from hole to end of my strap, why not to take a look on your boat to see if it looks the same? No need to measure though.
I only need two holes due to using a stainless strap and 400mm of 3x100mm slotted alu tube, beam inserts. I also added a 3x40mm, 80mm long stainless plate inside with the two bolt heads welded to it.
Actually I am a little puzzled about the stability factor of 6.0 rel. other cats. Made a simple spreadsheet to show, what´s it like IRL?
http://revintage.se/catstab.pdf
When checking Texelratings, stability is in the same direction, albeit with slighty smaller differences.
Thanks again!

Lars,
On my boat from the end of the strap to the center of the hole is 1.43 cm- 9/16" so a bit more than yours.
Best that I can measure from the end of the beam to the end of the strap is 31.1cm- 12 1/4"
I have end caps on the beam and I am trying to eye from the top of the hull down, but all of these measurements are within a mm or 2. Looks like you are well on your way to a fun boat. Keep updating this thread as you move along.

Pete,
Then everything will work out fine! Will of course post as anything happens. It will now be a pause until the hulls arrive. Will plan for the self tacking 49er jib as I now have enough info to proceed, build the rear beam, equip the empty Marstrom Tornado mast extrusion with fittings in the meantime. But first of all go skiing in the north of Sweden for a couple of weeks.
Thanks!
