My mid 80s Nacra has rudder pins that uses 2 cotter pins to retain it.
Has anyone converted it to a tooless retention syatem? The Marstrom has small stainless sheet metal tangs bolted to the transom, so attachment is a breeze.
Any downside to this? Assuming its done right.

Both my Nacra use split rings.
My Dart uses a small spring tab, that can be pushed aside by hand.
The biggest issue, as I see it, the Nacra pins have to drop out the bottom. Due to the shape of the castings, they cannot be removed upwards.
The drain plug is right below the bottom gudgeon, there really isn’t any meat left to attach anything below. You would have to attach something to the side, that stuck out, over to the pin.
If that ever failed, or got bent out of the way, the pin drops out, your rudders explode, & you have an unsailable Cat, & probably a hefty bill to find new blades after the whole works hits the bottom of the lake.
Just use split rings, you only have to remove the top ring. I have a small “shackle dog” with a slightly sharpened edge for when fingernails are too soft.

Keep an eye on .the top split ring, it gets a lot of wear.

I use stainless safety clip pins to hold my pins in and so far they are holding up well
