We've decided to get serious about finding a Hobie 21 Sport Cruiser - as soon as the travel restrictions are eased, we want to get a boat and practice our social distancing on the water!
I've sent a note to the three owners listed in the classifieds, but given that these are rare beasts I'd welcome any help in locating a nice one. Distance is less of an issue than condition, I have a (very) comfortable tow vehicle and my other hobby is Ironbutt endurance motorcycle rides
If you know of anyone who might be ready to part with their SC, please let me know!

Have you posted in the Hobie forum? Hobie forum > Sailboat classified > sailboat looking to buy.
That may help.
Good luck -

Thanks - I have already posted a similar note there, but a year of monitoring as I prepared hasn't shown much H21 SC activity on that board.

Sailboat classified > sailboat looking to buy
i would bet few sellers look there
much better off asking in a general discussion and seeing if anyone knows of one, even if it's not the "correct" thread (imho) -

Hobie 21 SC's are hard to find and when they do come up for sale they seem to be a bit pricey in my opinion. What feature is it about the SC that attracts you?
I am not trying to change your mind but:
Here is a decent discussion of the pros and cons of Miracle 20 vs SE vs SC.
https://www.hobie.com/for…ewtopic.php?f=45&t=43586
I saw a modified SE with a front tramp added and a monster sound system a few years ago. Total party boat. It had 2 large coolers, a dog and 6 adults on it. Still pretty quick and appeared to sail well.
I regularly see SE's and Miracle 20's for sale for 50% less than SC's. In fact here is an SE in Sarasota FL.

And a Miracle 20 in Sebastian, FL:

There has been one that pops up on craigslist in Wyoming from time to time over the years. Perhaps a boat wanted ad there might get noticed.

We don't really want and would not use the performance of the SE or the Miracle 20; either would need some mods to give us what we are looking for (if I understand the boats properly).
Things we find attractive about the SC:
* stays within trailer limit
* furling jib and easily reefed main
* lots of creature comfort for day-long sailing
* dry (OK, damp, but we have roll-top bags) storage for picnics, warm-up clothing, etc.
* large rear tramp and a good front tramp; we hope to have guests frequently (kids live local, as do other family, and we have a few friends )
* most seem to come with outboards, a useful thing with a larger boat on the west coast, where winds push you against the shore and bays/piers/boat-ramps always seem to face the wrong way
We want to build up our skills and comfort level to where we could (for example) put in at San Diego on a Saturday morning, sail north on the coast as far as we can get, overnight with what we have aboard in a motel, and come back the next day. Or maybe, on good weather weekends, go out to Catalina.

Saw that one a while back; I'm a bit concerned about whether a sailboat in Wyoming gets enough attention to stay in good condition *wry grin*

maybe call True North Marina in Clear Lake, TX. There is one sitting on a trailer, a bit greenish tint. They may be able to hint to the owner to sell it..

An inland boat tends to be in better condition, having spent the decades away from corrosive salt water. Truly dry storage can be a very good thing.

If it's the one I saw, it's an SE rather than an SC - thanks, though!

I can go along with that - I just tend to view things from the perspective of a serious motorcyclist, who has seen more than one machine that had been left unused for a long time and that needed major work before being ready again.
In any case, that particular boat seems not to be listed at present. I'll keep an eye in case it appears again. Thanks!

Wow, there were two SC, & an SE for sale up here last year. Plus with the $ exchange, they were 1/3 less than your dollar value.
It’s a long road trip, but I’ll post if they show up again this summer.

Thanks for the leads!
The first one is also listed on the classifieds here - I've sent the owner a note. The second is the one in Wyoming mentioned in an earlier post - I've also sent a note to that owner.
No reply on either one...

Well, thought I had one but the owner has decided to keep it in the family.
Any fresh leads out there?
