I am replacing my diamond wires on my mast ....and wondering....the clevis pins use cotter pins but I am thinking of going with split rings. Is this a mistake? Talk me into it or out of it. Thanks.

One of our Nacra has SS cotter pins, the other split rings. They’re hard to tape, as there is not much room to get tape around where the wire meets the mast.
I use a Loos gauge & tension them once a year, then slack off when we drop the mast, so the wires are never removed, negating the time advantage of split rings. I have snagged split rings, but never a cotter pin, as long as they are bent so as to stay flush. I think the cotter is thicker material.
My bad, but I only look at the top ones once, in the spring.

I'd stick with cotter pins, because they SEEM to stay put better. And, it'll be up there a while where you can't easily inspect it for security. I take the bent ends and using long nosed pliers roll them back into a loop, so there's no sharp end exposed, then tape.
