This event attracts multihull sailors from all over the US. However a monohull has won it as recently as 2013. We had 6 international teams in 2019.
The Hobie 18 fleet is especially well represented with 2 divisions currently scheduled and a possibility for a third if there are enough entries. There are over 100 trophies and other awards available.
Number of entries has varied greatly over the years but has been steady at 80 to 100 for the last ten years or so.
If there is 3 or more of the same boat, you get your own class.

Last year's Mug Race was postponed due to COVID until this year, but we are attempting to organize the event for May 1, 2021. This year's event will naturally have to be adapted to the current state of the pandemic. We foresee masks at every gathering, outdoor trophies, box-style suppers Saturday night, and most regrettably - no elaborate Sunday breakfast. Still the river is calling and people tell me they are anxious to race.
Registration is now open at http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/21676.
As we did last year, if we cancel the event we will fully refund all fees. Further, if you have reason to think you are Covid-positive, please stay home - we will issue a refund.
So we have hope for a fun AND safe event, though it will be a different kind of Mug Race. The heart of the event -- 38 nm one-way on the St. Johns River, will still be as it always has been. -

Only three weeks now till Mug Race! Our arrangements are coming together, and I hope yours are also. I wanted to send out a quick note to remind people about what is automatically included in your registration and what is not. What is included: one cotton tee for the skipper and one beverage ticket for four sodas or draft beers at the Rudder Club on Saturday. What is NOT included: a lasagna dinner on Saturday. You should order a dinner for everyone, both skipper and crew through the Regatta Network 'storefront'.
The new Margarataville hotel in Jacksonville Beach is providing a voucher for a one-night stay for us to use as a door prize at trophies on Sunday (must be present to win!). This is a really nice prize - so make plans to come and collect your trophy at the same time you have a chance for a prize.
Also, the first 50 registrants will get a BOGO coupon to the new Azalea City Brewery in Palatka (on 7th Street just south of St. Johns, a long walk or short drive from the riverfront). They have food trucks on site on Friday nights, so this is a nice new addition to Palatka's dining options. The Mug Race planning team has personally investigated the quality of the beer, and we are giving it a 'thumbs up'.
See you soon,

Thanks, Ken
It has been a while but a Nacra 5.2 did win the Mug Race before. Yes, it was 1976 and before RC27/RC30 dominance but it is nice to know you have a chance.

Thanks for that bit of history Brad...Looks like my uncle Chuck won it in 77 (year I was born) and 78. I was also blessed with growing up on Lake Mangonia in WPB next door to Bill and Eric Roberts. Clearly they have won it a few times!!
