deck port stuck  Bottom

  • anyone know a trick to open a stuck deck port. i can not open after taking the boat out
there is no damage but it will not turn
  • There should be a recessed area on the top of the plate (if it's the screw on type), take a piece of wood, put it against the recessed area and tap it with a hammer.

  • once you get it off, take the lid and clean it in a container (so it is submerged)
use air if possible to spray out the tracks (on the boat) and finish off with a wet rag - get all the sand and grit out - will make opening easier next time

  • Also, when applying pressure to unscrew it, bang the boat with the soft side of your first. Anywhere near the deck port works. But this will, in essence, help as well. Good luck. Sometimes that can be a punk.
  • If it’s a screw-in plate, you can take a pair of pliers, open them wide, and put the end of each of the handles into each of the recesses of the lid (pliers pointing straight up). This will give you something easy to grip onto to spin the lid free.

  • Here is what I did. Simple tool - piece of wood, a couple of bushings, and a couple of screws.

I needed more leverage to open a deck port last weekend and thought of this suggestion. Then I looked for something more at hand and this worked perfectly :)

  • Now we need a contest who can find the biggest tool to open a port! If I only had access to an excavator or something.

Good idea... I have been using Sailkote on the lids to help... seems to do ok.
