Have anyone here heard about this one, it later became SL16? Been offered a pair of cheap hulls, that I aim to build a single hand play cat around. As they are quite a bit away, it would be interesting to know beam diameter and weights.
Got everything else, mast, sails, trampoline material, rudder blades etc. New wider beams are easy to build(the original are only 7.7 ft wide), once you have sourced the correct dimension to fit in the hull pockets.

Scott, if I decide to go trough with the deal, you know where to look . Just two hulls. Old Ashby A-cat main on a cut down Tornado mast and 3m beams. Single handed Frankencat .

Have taken a new look in my workshop and found a Nacra 5.5 mast to chop up for two 10ft beams. The beam pockets are quite narrow so the beams will be positioned with the luff track upwards. With the track cut away, the section is 105x76mm.
Striker rod from M16 316 threaded rod, Nacra style, with 5mm DUX Dyneema instead of striker band. An 1.75" Delrin ball fits perfectly in the almost antique Tornado mast base I found.
Will try out the cut down alu Tornado mast w/o spreaders to begin with, as it most likely is to stiff for the Slingsby main. Nothing wrong with a fuller sail, as this one is 50kg heavier with a lot more RM. I am also open for trying it boomless with a stiffer lower batten.
Just found out the SL16, with exactly the same Yves Loday designed hulls as KL15.5, where made by Nacra for the US market:

What about moving the forestay hound up a bit, add short spreaders with pre-bend? Could give you some bend control... or make the diamond tension adjustable? We did that on a 5.2 in the 90's. Had the diamond adjustable from the wire...

Hi Scott,
My idea is to avoid more outlay than what I pay for the hulls. Hound heights around 280cm from the top is std for the A-cat, for the Tornado the rules say ca 220cm. Will absolutely take your point of view in account before I drill. If I later decide to use the F18 main I will have to add diamonds for better bend control, together with higher hounds. The lower hounds will be made with a T-terminal like the A-class cats and will not be in the way. So nothing fancy at first .

I get the idea of keeping cost down. The most money I have in FrankenKitty is the name (besides the new sails). I'm trying to negotiate acquiring a broken Flying Phantom mast for it...

Nice mast but quite heavy. I actually built a short mast for my foiler project from a trashed FP mast. It was in really bad shape, broken between upper diamond and hounds, but I managed to get the 8m mast I needed out of it.

It's more than I need, but the budget is within range. I don't have a problem with raising the Prindle mast, it would be just one more "boat in the puzzle".

Had to dump up the project, as the hulls where in bad shape and heavy . Think even my 5.5 hulls are lighter, will move that one to the lake house instead and keep the 5.8 Frankencat here.
