Help identify this roller furling swivel on a Nacra 5.8?

It looks like some kind of stay swivel so that the roller furler system can roll up the jib. I can't find that part anywhere, I was thinking about replacing it the next time the mast is down.

Any ideas?

Best replacement part would be harken part number 164

I’ve never seen the one pictured but had a similar one on a dart 18 and I replaced it with a 164

Harken 1878, it’s like a 164 but with a shackle end.

As it is quite crowded at the shroud/forestay shackle at the hounds, it might be more elegant to add a short snout of wire (4"?) above the swivel.

You forgot to add that if you add a 4 inch pigtail that you will have to shorten the forestay the same amount.

How much extra forestay does the 5.8 have? On my 5.5. with a standard jib I don’t think I’d be able to lower the jib halyard that far and still get the jib tensioned.

Hi carbonc,
Shouldn´t be aproblem even on the 5.5, as it has it´s halyard block ca 10cm under the hounds. Seems to be the same on the 5.8.

Yea, it seems hard to find, I wanted to find a similar one because it has the halyard block built into it. I guess it's not made anymore

Looking closer and at other angles, it looks like they have two pieces of metal that extend from the pin on the swivel, which allows them to connect the fore stay to another pin lower on the metal plates. Looks like they might have a wheel on the top pin to make a block between the plates, then the stay connects between the plates on the bottom with a pin through all three. Does that make sense?

Probably something added to a standard swivel. Maybe you can move the thingy to the new swivel? It doesn´t look to nice, better take the mast down and inspect it.

Agreed, the plan is to replace it with new parts when I drop the mast to replace the tramp. Just trying to figure out if I can order the same part or if I need to change it out with a slightly different setup

Upon inspection my 5.5 uses a Ronstan fork by eye swivel (link below). I measured out the offset from the hounds to jib halyard block and it’s right at 4in now. If a 4 inch section of wire was added before the swivel it would drop the jib halyard down at least an inch when accounting for the shackle.

Maybe the the snout-discussion is a nonexisting problem as a shackle or two seems solve it. Your solution with a block below the wire pressing is also to be preferred instead of the amateurish piece on jollygreens swivel.
Important though that the total forestay length including add-ons is correct.

Agreed revintage. The all-in one on jollygreen’s rig does seem crowded and I’m quite surprised the “block wings” don’t contact the shroud pressings when fueling.

It was a bit stuck but some mclube got it swiveling again! Furling jib works great again!

haha yeah, I ordered a new tramp about 2 weeks ago. When I take the mast down to put the tramp on, I'm going to take all the rigging in and get them to make new ones.

I think tramp is like 13 years old and the rigging is 9 years old

That’s a Ronstan RF78A fork by fork swivel. The halyard “block” is just a custom job in the lower pin area of the Ronstan swivel. Looks like the halyard is just riding over the swivel pin between two small chain plates/ tabs of metal plate. Those chainplates connect the swivel pin to the forestay much in the same way the shrouds attach to the hull.

Whatever you do, TAPE those ring dings on the swivel.
It is very easy for a line to catch a ring-ding. Once they get pulled out of shape, they can easily come out. Then it’s only a matter of time till the pin comes out & the mast drops.
